The story goes that almost 5,000 years ago the Chinese Empress Hsi-ling dropped a cocoon into her tea. It began to unravel, giving her the idea of unreeling the cocoon into long floating threads of silk.

According to many experts, the cultivation and use of silk predates even Hsi-ling. Throughout the centuries silk has been prized for its beauty and softness. It is the most lustrous of natural fibers and is unsurpassed as a medium for color. The surface of silk has small irregularities which break up light and cause its lively sparkle.

On the the next pages, I'll show you the silks that are now available from my studio. You will find painted silk tops and airy batts of painted carded silk. There are beautiful soft batts of wool blended with colored silk and exotic blends of camel and kid mohair, carded and ready to spin.
