what is carded silk?
Carded tussah is a very special treat to spin. The carded
silks begin as handpainted top and are briefly and carefully put through the carder. This opens up the roving into incredibly
soft batts - so light you can barely feel them in your hand.
why do these colors look so different from
the tops?

The carding breaks up the painted sections into many subtle
combinations of color in much the same way that they would blend when you drafted a top for spinning. The colors in these
batts are distributed unevenly so that each color appears distinctly and each batt has its own color personality, just as
it would have if you had split and drafted a handpainted top yourself.
The images are closeups of several batts coiled
muffin-style. Offerings usually contain between five and seven batts.
